Why should I hire a professional photographer? Can’t my significant other or a family member take my photos?

I like the idea of birth photography, but I am concerned about feeling uncomfortable or modest

Birth Photography is the story of your child’s birth, the story of this new chapter of your life. Captured in a storytelling, photojournalist style, it chronicles the labor, delivery, and first couple hours after baby is born. Having a professional photographer present at your birth ensures that you will get the best photos possible because I have the equipment and knowledge to handle tricky lighting situations. It also takes the pressure off dad or anyone one else that is there to be the mother’s support.

I want to ensure you are comfortable that is why I will meet with you prior to your delivery. We will talk about what type of photos you are hoping for and I can help you better understand how the angles I use will ensure beautiful documentary style images. I strive to provide the most meaningful, tasteful, photos possible.

Do I need to talk to my doctor/birth center to see if they will allow a photographer?

What if my birth ends in a cesarean section?

YES! It is your responsibility to make sure your doctor/hospital/birth center will allow photography during your labor and delivery. You may be limited to the number of “support” people allowed with you. Please verify the official policies with your provider, which might differ. We will need to discuss this at the time of your booking.

How long will you be at my birth?

There is no set time limit due to the unpredictable nature of births. I will arrive at your birth and start photographing when you have reached 6 cm of dilation, and I will stay afterwards for about an hr to capture the baby’s first moments, bath, meetings with friends/family, breastfeeding and more.

When should I book your services?

What if I change my mind at the last minute and don’t want pictures?

No problem at all – if you decide to forgo birth pictures for whatever reason, I completely understand; however, any fees paid to that point are non-refundable and non-transferrable, since that date was held for you, but you will not be liable for any more payments.

I highly recommend that you contact me as soon as you think you may be interested. Since labor is so unpredictable, I am limited to photographing two births a month. Once you decide to hire me as your photographer, I require a 50% deposit to hold that tentative date. Since your baby is not guaranteed to arrive on your date I will be available and on call 24 hours a day for two weeks around your due date. The remainder of payment is due by your 36th week of pregnancy.

What are the costs and what's included?

My birth packages start at $2800.00 and include my time and being on call 24-7 for 4 weeks surrounding your due date. The day of your birth I'll arrive when you're 6 cm dilated (and in active labor), I'll stay for up to an hr after baby has arrived to capture all of the first moments. All packages include the high resolution files presented in an online gallery with a print release.
